Meet Barry From Echo Valley Farm

I've spent most of my life around working animals. Long before I got into goats, I was raising and running Beagles, Walker Hounds, Bloodhounds, and Labrador Retrievers — breeds that are bred for a purpose and expected to perform. That background shaped the way I think about livestock. An animal's job isn't just to exist on your property; it's to produce, to grow, to earn its keep. That's the standard I hold my Savannas and my Anatolian Shepherds to at Echo Valley Farm.

 

The farm is located in Jacksonville, East Texas — good country for raising tough, heat-tolerant animals. I chose the Savanna breed because of what it was built for: frame, muscle, hardiness, and the kind of growth rates that make commercial producers take notice. Our herd is DNA-tested back to the original South African imported bloodlines, and I keep both 100% registered animals and high-quality commercial stock so buyers at every level can work with us. Every breeding decision here is backed by records — ADG tracking, sire performance data, and honest culling.

 

The Anatolian Shepherds came out of that same philosophy. A guardian dog that doesn't bond to livestock isn't doing its job. Our Anatolians are raised with the goats from the start, come from working farm and ranch lines, and are built to protect what you've invested in. Anatolian Shepherds are highly effective livestock guardians due to their strong instincts, adaptability, and gentle nature with livestock. While other breeds also excel in guarding, the unique combination of traits in Anatolian Shepherds makes them particularly well-suited for this role on farms.

Our Journey

With a rich history rooted in passion and dedication, Echo Valley Farm is striving to become a cornerstone in the Savanna goat breeding industry. Our journey is defined by a continuous commitment to excellence, focused on raising both 100% registered as well as a commercial herd with a strong presence of Savanna genetics — known for their hardiness, growth, and overall quality.
That same commitment to quality extends to every aspect of our operation, including the working dogs that help protect and manage our herd. Having grown up around dogs my entire life — from Beagles, Walker Hounds, and Rhodesian Ridgebacks used for hunting game, to Labrador Retrievers trained for narcotics detection, and Bloodhounds for tracking people — I’ve seen the incredible range of instincts these animals possess. Yet none have impressed me more than the Anatolian Shepherd. With a natural balance of deep affection and unshakable protectiveness, this breed embodies the very traits we value most at Echo Valley: loyalty, strength, and a steadfast dedication to purpose.
